Web development can be divided into to main sections with many subsections. The 'backend' relates to the 'engine' of the web site and the functionality of your website. For example, you may want to gather information from your regular customers and use it to personalize your site for them, this where you can build a database to interact with the users of your website. Another good example is storing articles for various users to read. The programming language I use to achieve this is called 'php' and the database used is called 'mysql'
